Paul T. Barmore, 93, of Roscoe, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2013 surrounded by loving family.
Paul was born on April 20, 1920 in rural Brodhead, Wisconsin, the son Trevor and Anna (Giesberger) Barmore. He graduated from Capron High School in 1937. Paul served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Corps during WWII. He was a loving provider for his family, and enjoyed flying, fishing, and golf well into his 80’s. Paul was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Roscoe serving as a trustee and member of the choir. He was a Director for the Bank of Roscoe, past President of the Roscoe Lions Club, member of Roscoe’s first village board and volunteer fireman at the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Dept. Paul was a member of the Walter Graham American Legion Post #332 of Rockton, Rotary Club and troop leader for Boy Scouts of America. Paul and his wife, Kay, owned and operated Barmore’s Hardware & Variety store in Roscoe from 1952 to 1973. Paul also worked as a Broker-Salesman in real estate from 1973 to 1982. A special thanks to the staff at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center for taking excellent care of Paul.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Kathleen (Wheeler); his five children: Gayle (Bob) Kocher, Gary (Claudia) Barmore, Jill (Randy) Romano, Lana (Doug) Smith, Allan (Sarah) Barmore; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Ken Barmore and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by eldest granddaughter Amy (Kocher) Joiner, his parents and sisters Doris and Louise.
Paul requested a private family burial at the Roscoe Cemetery and his family is honoring that wish. No other services are scheduled. McCorkle Funeral Home – Rockton Chapel, 767 N Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, Illinois assisted the family.
