Robert M. Yates

Robert Yates, 91, of Beloit, WI, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Willowick Assisted Living, Beloit.

He was born on December 13, 1929 in Dixon, IL, the son of John and Bessie (Clary) Yates. Robert was a 1951 graduate of Mt. Morris Community High School. He was a proud Korean War veteran serving with the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in the 7th Calvary. Robert married Rose Marie Oldenburg in Beloit and later married June (Rogers) Moon on May 23, 1970.


Robert went to work for his father for a short time after moving to Pennsylvania and began his employment at Aerovox Corp. He later drove a bread truck and worked at Owens Corning in PA, where he trained as an electrician before moving to Beloit in 1965. Robert retired from Chrysler as an electrician in 1991. After his retirement, he and his wife traveled throughout the U.S. and settled in Zapata, TX working on building and remodeling projects. Robert enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, fishing, camping, and water Skiing.

Survivors include his wife, June; children, Stephen (Eileen) Yates of Brodhead, WI, Stanley Yates of Janesville, WI, Patrick (Lillian) Yates, Suzanne Yates both of Beloit, WI, Betty (Dan) Sagaitis of Desoto, WI, and Kathleen (John) Bugge of Oak Creek, WI; step sons, David Moon of Beloit and Michael Moon of Rockford, IL; grandchildren, Jason (Angela) Yates, Chad (Darcy) Yates, Jeremy (Kim) Yates, Stephanie (Nick) Redieske, Bobbi Jo (Ben) Yates, Kari (Troy) Zimmerman, Nicole Robertson, and Rebekah Bugge; 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; brother, Glenn Yates; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; grandsons, Ryan Yates and Keith Zimmerman; granddaughter, Amanda Moon; brother, Donald Yates; and sister, Barbara Thomas.

A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021 in the Floral Lawn Cemetery, 835 Dearborn Ave., South Beloit, IL, with Pastor Dean Noonan officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the V.F.W. Mead Allen Post # 2306. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.
